The Edinburgh Earth Initiative (EEI) is now accepting proposals from University of Edinburgh researchers for Earth Fellows research projects for the ‘24/’25 academic year.
The Earth Fellows programme provides paid opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students at the University of Edinburgh to work on projects of strategic importance related to climate, environment, and sustainability.
Researchers at the University of Edinburgh can host Earth Fellows to support their areas of research and contribute to the wider strategic aims at the University of Edinburgh. Length of projects and Earth Fellows contributions are flexible based on your project’s needs.
From 2020-2023, 16 project partners from across the University of Edinburgh’s three Colleges supported 35 Earth Fellows projects – ranging from investigating the University’s commitments to Climate Justice, to developing Climate & Sustainability Training at the University of Edinburgh and an Advanced Earth Fellowship which examined existing research on the impacts of climate change in humanitarian contexts. For the ‘24/’25 academic year we are looking for research project proposals for Earth Fellowships in the six climate and environment challenge areas set out in the University’s current Research and Innovation strategy. Funding is available for academic staff to access Earth Fellows (postgraduate-level work) or Advanced Earth Fellows (PhD-level work) to work on projects for 9 hours a week for 9 months.
If you’re a university researcher and have a new project idea relating to climate and environment but are not sure how to start, this is a great opportunity to hire a student to support in developing the idea so it’s ready to take forward for external funding.
