Earth Champions provide visible leadership on a key University strategic priority, shaping bold narratives, developing major funding propositions, and building inclusive transdisciplinary research and innovation communities.

The Edinburgh Earth Initiative (EEI) is seeking four senior academics (0.4 FTE secondment, initially 1 year with intent to extend to 3 years) to act as Earth Champions in each of the following Research & Innovation Strategy 2030 Challenge Areas: Clean Energy SystemsCircular EconomyData for Sustainability, and Sustainable Cities. This is a distinctive opportunity to provide visible leadership on a key University strategic priority, shaping bold narratives, developing major funding propositions, and building inclusive transdisciplinary research and innovation communities.

Time will be bought out at 0.4 FTE to enable Earth Champions to focus on high-value funding proposals, horizon scanning, and external partnership development. This role would suit someone who is motivated to lead a shared vision, harness colleagues’ expertise, and use the dedicated time to drive forward collaborative activities, funding proposals, and external engagement.

Colleagues are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (max. 300 words), specifying the challenge area (see above) and outlining their suitability and vision for the role, by Monday 27th October 2025. Please see the attached job description and further details document for full information on the role and the recruitment process.

For an informal chat about the opportunity, please contact Prof Margaret Graham, Director EEI
